Lígnico begins a new chapter with a proposal born from absolute respect for tradition and a steadfast gaze towards the future. For this first collection, I had the opportunity to shape Desseo, a piece that seeks not only to be an object but also a vehicle for emotions and sensations. From the very beginning, I wanted this side table to tell a distinct story, an honest dialogue between craftsmanship and formal experimentation, where every gesture, every finish, speaks of a way of understanding design that is personal and profound.
For me, Desseo is a manifesto about what it means to design with soul. It is made entirely of wood, that material which has always been my faithful companion and which holds in its texture the memory of the hands that worked it before. But this piece does not limit itself to tradition; rather, it challenges it, putting it in dialogue with modernity through an iridescent lacquer that plays with light like a second skin. This finish is not a decorative whim, but a statement: the wood, in its honesty and warmth, merges with innovation to create an effect that changes with every angle, as if the piece were breathing and alive.
The table’s double height is a device that breaks the mould. It is not merely a functional element, but an invitation to pause and look closely, to discover how the forms balance, how the natural and sober texture of the wood contrasts with that vibrant sheen that seems to be constantly in motion. This tension between opposites is what gives Desseo its unique character, that magnetism that never fades and makes the object a protagonist, rather than a mere companion within the space.
In the creation process, I wanted every detail to have meaning. The wood is not merely a support: it tells a story of patience, precision, and that manual work that knows nothing of haste. Every joint, every grain, every finish is designed to convey respect for craftsmanship. In contrast, the iridescent lacquer is the gesture of boldness, the willingness to play with form and colour, to break from expectations without losing elegance. The result is a piece that moves between two worlds, and therein lies its strength: it is tradition and at the same time trend, rooted and soaring.
When I imagine someone approaching Desseo, I want the experience to go beyond the visual. I want them to pause, to touch, to feel the warm texture of the wood and the ever-changing softness of the lacquer. To discover how that double height invites play with the perception of space, to consider how furniture can be an extension of our thoughts and emotions. It is not just a piece of furniture, but a gesture, a pause, a place for reflection and wonder.
This creation is also a reflection of the way I understand design: not as a cold or distant discipline, but as a way to connect, to communicate, to move. Function is important, of course, but it should never be the only consideration. Desseo carries the implicit idea that furniture can tell stories, can be a bridge between past and present, between technique and poetry. That blend is what drives me and what I always try to convey in every project.
Lígnico has embraced this vision to chart its own path, one in which conscious design and a commitment to craftsmanship go hand in hand. Desseo is just the beginning of a collection that promises to go beyond the conventional, aiming to offer pieces with identity, with a voice of their own. It is an invitation to look at furniture with fresh eyes, to recognise in it more than just utility, to discover in every line and surface a world of meanings.
What excites me most about this collaboration is its ability to create an open dialogue between the experience of handmade work and the freedom to explore new forms. The result is not just a piece of design, but a living testament that innovation can arise from respect for the essential. Tradition is not a burden, but a springboard to reinvent the present.
With Desseo, we open the door to furniture that wants to be more than a complement: it wants to be the protagonist, to move, to transform any space into something with soul and character. This search for meaning has guided every step of its creation and is what I hope the viewer feels upon discovering it. The wood, the lacquer, the form… everything is conceived so that time ceases to be an enemy and becomes an ally that strengthens the value of authenticity.
Thus, Desseo is also an act of desire, a longing to create something enduring and beautiful that invites pause and connection. It is not about imposing trends, but about offering a piece that accompanies, inspires, and provides a personal and sincere perspective on what design can be today. And that is the invitation I extend: to experience design not as a static object, but as a sensitive experience that evolves and transforms with every glance and every gesture.
