LOOP was born from a personal desire: to fuse art, design and functionality in a piece that not only fulfils its purpose, but also tells a story, interacting with the space and those who use it. For me, design should be just that: a gesture that goes beyond the practical, that awakens emotions and brings something unique to everyday life. This piece we created for Fénix, part of the Formica group, is precisely that gesture. It is not just a table, nor just a stool. LOOP can be all that and more, depending on the moment and the place. Its strength lies in that subtle versatility that allows it to adapt, to blend into its surroundings without imposing itself, but rather transforming them.
When I think of LOOP, I imagine that continuous, almost organic movement that never ceases or stops. Its soft curves, its almost sculptural form, remind me of Miquel Navarro’s utopian cities, where every element is alive, connected, breathing with the space around it. I wanted LOOP to have that same fluidity, that ability not to break but to integrate, to be part of the interior landscape. Not an object that intrudes, but one that curls up, that accompanies without losing its presence. It is a complicated balance, but that is precisely where its essence lies.
Beyond form, colour plays a fundamental role in this piece. I did not choose the shades at random. The palette is designed to provoke something profound, beyond simple visual impact. I was inspired by Mark Rothko’s colour fields, by how his paintings seek to move us without fanfare, with tones that speak silently. Thus, the two greens and dark violet of LOOP seek a balance between calm and contained energy, between sophistication and serenity. It is not just a question of aesthetics: it is a sensory story that colour tells, a narrative that accompanies every use, every glance.
The material is another key player. Working with FENIX® has been an exciting challenge. This material is not only innovative for its technology and super-matt finish, but its soft touch and anti-fingerprint properties make it the perfect ally for a piece that must live with people, withstand everyday use without losing its character. For me, it is essential that a piece retains its essence over time. That is why the rigour of the finishes and the resistance of the material are as important as formal beauty. LOOP must work in any environment, whether it is a home or a contract space, and always retain its identity intact.
Designing LOOP was also an exercise in balancing practicality and emotion. I wanted it to be light, comfortable, sturdy and easy to move, but also to carry a load of intention, of poetry. I didn’t want it to merely fulfil a function, but to provoke feelings, to invite contemplation. In every detail, from its shape to its colour and feel, there is a common thread that seeks to awaken something beyond the functional. LOOP does not go unnoticed, but its presence is not aggressive. Its strength lies in the honesty of the material, the simplicity of its lines and that silent gesture that invites pause.
The name LOOP is a statement. It refers to that continuous cycle, to the constant fluidity that design must have in a changing world. Design cannot be rigid or static; it must be flexible, adaptable, and at the same time retain a solid identity that makes it relevant and enduring. LOOP can be in different spaces, fulfil different functions, and yet maintain its own meaning, an aesthetic value that is not diluted. That is what I wanted to convey.
The proportions and articulation of the volumes in LOOP are the result of a meticulous process, where each shape and void is measured to achieve an almost sculptural balance. It is no coincidence that the project has roots deeply connected to artistic thinking: it is not just a technical object, it is also a poetic piece, a small sculpture that dialogues with space and time. This blend of art and industrial design is what gives it its unique character.
At a time when design is often fragmented between the purely functional and the excessively decorative, LOOP reminds us that both worlds can be brought together with coherence and sensitivity. It can hold anything from a cup of coffee to the weight of a person, but it can also elevate a room, spark a conversation, and be that focal point that makes any corner special. For me, this piece is a vindication of the power of contemporary design as a bridge between disciplines, between emotions and utility.
LOOP represents the sensitivity I always seek in my work: not understanding design as an automatic or predictable response, but as a way to activate the gaze, generate emotion, and celebrate beauty in everyday life. It is not an object that is simply used, but one that is felt, experienced, and that accompanies and evolves with those who inhabit it. This is how I want design to be: an open dialogue, a shared experience, a space for the unexpected.
This project is, in short, an invitation to look at design with new eyes. To see beyond function, to connect with the emotions aroused by shapes, colours, materials and sensations. LOOP is not just a piece, it is a small universe where art, life and use intertwine in an endless loop, a continuous cycle of presence and meaning.
